Jonathan Phillips is looking forward to a clash of hockey styles on Wednesday night.

His Sheffield Steelers team take on an unpredictable Edinburgh Capitals that has taken a fair few scalps this season.

Steelers had no game over the week and the winger said: “The break has given us a chance to heal a few bodies. As well as the guys out like Dustin Kohn and Rob Dowd we have others carrying knocks, a few days off allowed them to rest up.

“Having a few days away from the rink does everyone good. We come back refreshed and eager to get back to business on Wednesday against Edinburgh.

“What a run they have had since they got back to full strength. They have beaten Belfast, Coventry, Nottingham, Braehead. They are a different team to any we face: European style, puck possession and clinical. This is a game we have to win. The first period is so important, we have to go at them right from the drop of the puck.

“Their goalie is their best player, Tomas Hiadlovsky was amazing last year and by all accounts is pulling up trees again this season. We outshot them 31-13 when we played in Murryfield in September, they were short handed and we dominated them winning 10-3.

“We know that on Wednesday it will be totally different, we are preparing for a battle” said Phillips.

“We know the importance of the month of December. This is the business time of year, we have the experience of winning trophies and we know the job that needs to be done. One at a time we will pick them off.”
