IT’S EARLY days - but Sheffield Steeldogs are top of the English Premier League!

In last weekend’s double-header, they beat Swindon Wildcats 4-1 at iceSheffield, after gaining an exciting 3-2 overtime victory in Wiltshire, Ben Morgan scoring the road-game winner.

On Sunday, Steeldogs took charge with two goals just five seconds apart, when Steve Duncombe scored short-handed at 8.03 followed by Janis Ozolins. A further goal by Greg Wood at 16.37 sealed a 3-0 first period

Edgars Bebris scored the only goal of the second period, although Dogs conceded at 48.02 with an unassisted goal by James Knight.

Coach Andre Payette said: “It was a fantastic way to start the league campaign with a four pointer.

“It was a happy team bus coming back from Swindon in the early hours of Saturday morning and an even happier dressing room Sunday night.

“Now we have to focus on next weekend against Basingstoke away and Milton Keynes at home.

“No weekend is going to be easy this year, especially after seeing some interesting results from this weekend’s league games. We have to keep working hard.”
