It was the first domestic, competitive loss of the season.
Steelers, who had come from behind to beat Panthers 7-5 six days earlier, conceded to David Clarke at 9;31.
Adventurous Sheffield d-man Mike Ratchuk levelled just over a minute later.
Panthers went to work in the midle period with Alex Nikiforuk scoring two in just over three minutes, to make it 3-1.
Another Sheffield d-man got on the scoresheet at 36;39 - but Anders Franzon's effort only triggered a Chris Lawrence reply from the home team.
Steelers' winger Mathieu Roy gave the visitors hope with seconds left of the middle period.

He made it 3-4, but Panthers hung on to the winning margin in a goalless last session.

Steelers had outshot their hosts 37-32, but on the night it was not enough.
