No old pals’ act from Steeldogs

Have your say

SHEFFIELD Steeldogs player coach Andre Payette will put friendships on hold this weekend.

The power forward will be up against some of his old pals from former team Newcastle Vipers, now playing for Guildford Flames, who are visitors to iceSheffield on both Saturday (7.30pm) and Sunday (5.30pm). He has also invited Newcastle fans down to enjoy a weekend of hockey.

He said: “It will be a great chance for me to see fans from Newcastle as well as being fun to play against so many of my old team-mates. It will be a great atmosphere.”

Ex Steelers winger David Longstaff will be in Flames’ side, which beat Dogs 3-0 at the Spectrum earlier in the month.

Payette was pleased with the way his team played last Sunday in Peterborough, saying: “We had a mixed set of results last weekend, with a tough loss on Saturday but the guys bounced back with another of our best games this year. We are really gelling together nicely as a team and I couldn’t have hoped for a better start to this season.”

There are two special offers this weekend, Kids Go Free at both games as well as the chance to win a player’s jersey. Any fan wearing their hockey jersey will be entered into a free draw for either Payette’s jersey (Saturday) or Pavel Gomeniuk’s jersey (Sunday,) when they buy a game ticket.
