Jason Hewitt will return to the Sheffield Steelers for a 10th season- and the long-serving star has targeted a repeat of last season’s Play-Off victory.

During his decade of service to the club, Hewitt has won two EIHL titles and three Play-Off championships - the last of which came earlier this year, under head coach Gerad Adams.

“Winning is what it is all about - that’s why I came here 10 years ago,” Hewitt said.

“It’s why I stay now because nothing beats that feeling of winning at the end of the year with 16 team mates that you have been to war with for eight months.

“After the way last season ended, we are all keen to get back as soon as possible and try and do it all over again.

“In Gerad we have a coach who knows our league but, more importantly, knows us and what it takes to do well here.

“He is a Steelers man like us, we respect him and can’t wait for a full season under his control.”

Hewitt’s has been awarded a testimonial for his service, which will take place in 2015/16 to avoid a clash with the benefit year of Mark Thomas this coming season.

“Sheffield isn’t just my home now. It’s my club,” Hewitt added.

“I’d like to think that the likes of Mark, Jonathan Phillips and I have shown that you can have great careers here - and in return, the club has given me some incredible moments back.

“When I arrived here I couldn’t have dreamed of the journey we would all have been on and the very thought of 10 years and a testimonial would have made me laugh out loud!

“That’s over 12 months away but something to look forward to after another tough year ahead.”

Paying tribute to Hewitt, Adams added: “Hewey was great for me when I arrived, and great for the team in the run in.

“He did everything I asked and more.

“I used him in all situations and I trusted him on the ice at key moments.

“As good as he was on the ice he was in the room.

“He is one of the key figures within this hockey club and has been an amazing servant.”
