Braehead Clan’s Yorkshire-born defenceman Kevin Phillips maybe Sheffield Steelers’ first signing of the Summer.

The Star understands a deal is being finalised to bring in the 25-year-old ex Belfast Giants man.

Steelers’ coach declined to discuss the issue but friends of the 5ft 11ins blue liner, who iced 54 games for Clan last season, say it’s a done deal.

Meanwhile, Great Britain beat Poland on Saturday afternoon 3-2. It meant they claimed a highly creditable silver medal in the world championships.
