SHEFFIELD Steelers’ title dreams were comprehensively ended at Belfast Giants’ Odyssey stadium tonight.

Ryan Finnerty’s men had to win tonight (and tomorrow) to ensure the league title bid was in their hands.

But they crashed 5-1 - handing Giants their trophy.

It was the 15th straight win for the Irish.

Giants scored two in 24 seconds in the first period, courtesy of ex Steeler Rob Dowd, assisted by Craig Peacock and Jeremy Rebek and Jon Pelle, aided by Mike Hoffman and Jeff Mason.

While Jeff Legue got one back, following good work from Rod Sarich and Colt King, Belfast took command of the second period, with goals from Aaron Clark and Paul Deniset, both on the Power Play.

Deniset added another five minutes into the third period.

Giants were on another powerplay when captain Rebek iced their celebration cake in the closing minutes with the fifth goal.
