Dogs show their teeth

Have your say

Sheffield Steeldogs’ two home wins over Bracknell Bees have distanced them from the Berkshire team in the race for the final EPL Play-off position.

Dogs won 4-1 and 5-4 on Saturday and Sunday respectively, last weekend.

Steeldogs have now won their last three games and five out of the last seven games since Andre Payette took over as head coach from Matt Darlow.

He said: “I am proud of the team effort, especially as they were hard and physical games. The guys have stood up to be counted.

With injuries taking their toll and the bench a little short, they held on well.”

In the first game, goals from Steve Duncombe, Stuart Brittle, Janis Ozolins and Chris Sykes ensured the win. Man of the match awards went to Lee Haywood,

On Sunday, the game was memorable more for fights than goals.

A fight between Steve Duncombe and Bracknell’s James Galazzi just ten seconds into the game whipped up the players and the crowd, and the pace barely dropped for the next 60 minutes.

A second fight, this time between Kriss Grundmanis and Nicky Watt, kept the game at boiling point.

Steeldogs are on the road next weekend against Basingstoke Bison and Guildford Flames before returning to iceSheffield on 26th and 27th February.
