Dave Simms on Steelers: This is it - it's crunch time!

Since when in cup final week has the cup final not been the most important game of the week?

Well this week that is the case as the Steelers and Devils go head to head in Cardiff on Friday in a must-win game for Aaron Fox and his side.

Win that game and then win out. The Steelers believe that will result in the two teams meeting in Sheffield on the last day of the season for a league championship decider.

Now for that to happen the stars have to align. Firstly we have to beat Manchester and Dundee twice.

It also means Cardiff must drop another point but they have a more difficult run-in with games against the likes of Nottingham and Belfast.

The Championship isn’t over and the Steelers’ DNA is the league title so Friday’s game is beyond big - it’s huge.

Once out of the way, on Friday evening we can concentrate on Sunday’s cup final. This is the third meeting between these two sides in recent years in the final.

The Devils have won both of the previous meetings, the first one under Gerad Adams’ tenure with Cardiff beating us by the odd goal and then three years ago with Paul Thompson at the helm Cardiff won again.

There are so many battles to look forward to in this encounter.

Martin versus John Armstrong in the face off circle. Can big John raise his game and dominate the best player in the league over the last four years?

Can Tomas Duba beat out the Steelers nemesis Ben Bowns between the pipes?

Duba has been the star of so many recent games but over recent years Bowns, the man from Sheffield who recently came out saying how he hated the Steelers, has had our number so many times.

Is Sunday that time his winning record comes to an end. Let’s hope so. 1500 fans, six busses of fans will head to Cardiff, the City will turn ORANGE, the fans believe, so now it’s up to the team.

It has shown on so many occasions that when it buys in to a defence game first, then it creates the offensive chances to utilise the incredible firepower on show.

For four games running Fox has stuck with the same team. Does he again on Friday in Cardiff or does Bettauer or Lewing come in, and if so who for?

We can all have our opinions and the reality is that they won’t mean anything. It’s the opinion of Aaron Fox that counts.

For me it will be a Ben O’Connor who I am expecting to come through.

He is a man that cares, a man that can counter act what the Devils throw at him and create a moment of magic.

Ben had struggled with goals recently. However he has two in his last two games and played a terrific game in Guildford last Sunday.

Ben is a money player, the bigger the game the more he wants to deliver.

I’ve got a feeling he will come through on Sunday, I just smell that this could be his moment.

A great weekend would be two wins, a decent weekend one win, and a head in the hands weekend would see us return empty-handed.

Which one is it to be?
