Dave Simms' column: Sheffield Steelers are turning a corner

You can feel the ship turning, can’t you?

I hope I don’t tempt fate with that statement.

We played Fife at home on Wednesday night.

Another win would make it five in a row, with our next home game against Dundee on Sunday (4pm).

That double win weekend last time out in Scotland came on the back of the double win against Nottingham and has set us up nicely.

Right now there is a feel of optimism around the club.

You have to give credit to the guys and the coach of course but what about the owner who dug up the patio and found the cash to bring in three replacements so early?

Those injuries hit hard and Tony Smith didn’t want us derailed so early.

He did what was best for the club.

Most owners would have said “its early. It’s October. Let’s wait and see.”

But Tony said: “It’s early, it’s October, we need to act now and be positive.”

I love that attitude.

That meant we took a full squad to Scotland and brought back four points.

If we can beat Fife and Dundee this week then we are in a good place and still have Johnson and Lewing to come back.

Once the squad is fully fit then changes will have to be made.

Good luck on deciding that one, coach.

I’m full of optimism heading into these games. Duba has found form between the pipes, the D looks solid and we are scoring.

Roll on every game I say.

We had many low points last season. The lowest was the back-to-back defeats by Dundee.

Dundee have improved but if we play our game on Sunday we should have too much for them.

You never take the Stars lightly – we have learnt that.

But I just see us having too much.

I hope so anyway!

See you at the Arena Sunday!
