Sheffield Steelers cruised into second place in the Elite League tonight after beating Braehead by the odd goal in five.

Drew Fata drew first blood.

The Sheffield Steelers’ D-man scored on a Power Play after ten minutes at Ryan Finnerty’s Braehead.

Chad Langlais and Jonathan Phillips assisted.

Ex Steeler Chris Frank was handed a ten minute misconduct penalty after the goal.

It was the only strike of the first period.

Braehead are keen to retain their position of second in the table, behind Belfast Giants.

They started off the night a single place and two points ahead of Sheffield.

Doug Christiansen was looking to secure his first four-straight winning sequence as Steelers’ coach.

And it looked good for the visitors when Jonathan Phillips added a second, at 33.38.

But Clan got one back through Ash Goldie five minutes later.

And at 49;18 Joe Cullen levelled, short-handed.

But Steelers got their nose in front again on 53 minutes through Stefan Meyer.

FINAL SCORE: Braehead Clan 2 (Goldie, Cullen) Sheffield Steelers 3 (Fata, Phillips, Meyer)

Attendance 3,003.
