Have your say

Bastille Day can run out an aptly-named winner of Sandown’s Sky Bet Proud To Support RoR Handicap on the eve of the famous French National Day.

The four-year-old appears to have been placed to perfection of late by David Elsworth, stepping up on a couple of decent initial efforts to notch a hat-trick.

Bastille Day kicked off his spree over a mile at Kempton at the beginning of June before adding another course and distance success before the end of that month.

However, he showed he is no one-trick pony when lining up at Epsom last time, defying a 4lb rise in the weights to hold The Salmon Man by a neck over an extended mile last week.

He turns out again here with a 6lb penalty but Elsworth is clearly keen to strike while the iron is hot and before the handicapper has another chance to have his say.

Harry Dunlop thought enough of Bretoncelles to be considering her for Classic trials earlier on in the year so the Cappagh Life After Racing Handicap should hopefully be well within her compass.

The three-year-old has yet to strike in three outings but her lack of success ensures she starts life in this sphere off a very workable mark of 76.

Not beaten far by Ribblesdale third The Black Princess on her debut, Bretoncelles has since been placed in two all-weather maiden heats, most recently when third on her seasonal return at Lingfield at the end of May.

Stepping up to 10 furlongs that day, she handled the trip well and stays at that distance here.

Hugo Palmer has made little secret of the regard in which he holds Spanish Squeeze so it is perhaps worth giving him another shot in the Diomed Development Handicap at Yarmouth.

Sent off favourite at York in May, he failed to take a hand in the finish but as that was just his second start on turf, it is perhaps too early to write him off entirely.
