Horse racing: Family Fun Day at Town Moor

Have your say

We have a busy day in store here at Doncaster Racecourse this coming Sunday 16 June when the focus is firmly on the young’uns as part of our Family Fun Day.

Cartoon celebrity swine Peppa Pig will be in attendance on Town Moor, making regular appearances throughout the day, as well as various other attractions for the kids to enjoy.

Obviously, it’s Father’s Day too so hopefully we’ll see lots of dads at the races enjoying a flutter and a beer in the sunshine.

Racing begins at 2.30pm and we have a seven race card.

The feature race is a 0-95 handicap over 6f which is programmed for 4.40. The eye is immediately drawn to a couple of last time out winners, Dick Bos and Line Of Reason. Dick Bos won in taking style latterly at Ripon and could still be on a lenient mark for trainer David O’Meara, who is a dab hand with improving horses from other yards; especially sprinters.

Line Of Reason hasn’t been with Paul Midgley very long after being purchased for a hefty price from David Simcock at the beginning of May. Utterance, for William Buick and champion trainer John Gosden, could be worth another look in the 5.15. He is attractively bred and has only ever raced twice under rules.

The first of those was at Newmarket when he was coltish in the paddock beforehand, but ran a nice race through greenness to stay on for fifth in what has turned out to be a good maiden. Utterance then won easily at a very short price at Yarmouth and if he lines up, will run off an opening mark of 82 which is more than fair and will be hard to beat.

If you’re coming along for some family fun on Sunday, make sure you check out our all-new Kids Club, Young Hooves. You can become a member of the Young Hooves for FREE - just look out for the Young Hooves team at the racecourse on Family Fun day or head to for more details!
