Dolatulo has emerged a possible for the Crabbie’s Grand National after a promising run in the Grand Sefton at Aintree on Saturday.
The seven-year-old was just moving into contention when he gave the seventh fence a hefty shove and Denis O’Regan did well to stay in the saddle.
After that he was always fighting a losing battle but did well to finish eighth, only beaten 12 lengths.
Trainer Warren Greatrex was thrilled with how Dolatulo took to the fences but he has not yet finished in the first three over three miles, which is a prerequisite for Grand National runners these days.
“He’s a star and I picked him up for next to nothing,” said Greatrex.
“Denis said he was just moving into contention when he made the mistake which knocked him back, otherwise it would have been a different story.”
