RACING days don’t get much bigger than the Grand National, and after all of the excitement of the Lincoln - our opening flat fixture of the year - Saturday’s Aintree national hunt classic is now the focus of everyone’s attention.

The National does is for many, the meeting that introduced them to racing. It is of a British institution.

Last year’s winner Ballabriggs is one of two previous winners taking part in this year’s line up. Who would rule out surprise 2009 winner Mon Mome who ran to victory, despite being a 100/1 outsider? But with up to 39 other horses vying to add their name to the long list of legendary winners, and record prize-money of £975,000 at stake, the 2012 Grand National may well prove one of the best and most competitive in memory.

After the build-up of the Lincoln meeting however, in the same way that the Grand National can attract a new breed of racegoer, we’re also hoping to make racing as accessible as possible with the launch of the KAT Communications Cash Back Raceday at Doncaster on Friday, April 27.

The meeting, a new slant on the racecourse’s award-winning 2011 Free Raceday, offers racegoers who pre-order heavily discounted tickets for the meeting, the chance to get back five individual £1 vouchers, redeemable against food and drink at racecourse bars and food outlets, in return for the cost of the Grandstand or family ticket purchased.

The offer, will only apply to the first 15,000 tickets booked online and will effectively cancel out the cost of a grandstand or family admission ticket at £5, and ensure better value for £10 County Enclosure tickets and £15 premier entry costs. To ensure restaurant customers also benefit from the cash back raceday dining packages have also been reduced on the day to £60 per person.

We’re hoping it will be a really big turn-out, as people who perhaps thought that racing wasn’t affordable or even accessible to them, come along to see what it’s all about. And we’re expecting a good line-up, which should make for a fantastic introduction to horse racing for those new to the sport, and the usual great day out for the more seasoned racegoer.
