DEFENDING champions Jake Prime (Doncaster) and Jack Barlow (Wheatley Hills) were knocked out of the boys’ 18 and Under doubles at Doncaster’s Spring Open.

The local duo lost 6-2, 6-4 against second seeds Sam Evans and William Spencer in their semi-final.

Local rivals Will Beaton and Sam Colbear, also lost interest in the competition, going down 6-0, 6-1 against No 1 seeds Samuel Lemberger and Jordan Simpson.

Prime and Barlow had earlier beaten Ryan Hallam and Joshua Winton 6-2, 6-2, whilst Beaton and Colbear had progressed at the expense of Ryan Baxter and Adam Twigg, 10-8 in the tie-break.

Doncaster pairing Jenny Collins and Molly Jenkins were on the wrong end of a 6-0, 6-0 beating at the hands of top seeds Abigail Lemberger and Emma Wilson in their girls’ 14 and Under doubles.

Doncaster’s Vishnu Panikkar, last year’s boys’ 10 and Under winner, qualified for the quarter-finals of the 12 and Under competition.

He beat No 7 seed Joshua Elliott 11-9 in a tie-break in the first round and then put out Yannick Ali-Simoen 4-0, 4-1 in the next round.

Clubmate Thomas Huggins lost 4-0, 4-2 against Benjamin Bertie in their first round tie.

Will Morley crashed to a 4-0, 4-0 defeat in his first round tie against Andrew McBride.
