The Aegon GB Pro-Series, in Sheffield, has an all British Final for the second year running today.
Dan Smethurst, last year’s runner up and number one seed, beat Tom Farquharson 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 to book his place in today’s final.
He will meet Dan Cox, current world number 296. Cox has had strong performances through the week and made the final by beating fellow countryman Marcus Willis in the semi-final 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.
Both finalists are multiple winners on the ITF Pro-Circuit and needed all their experience to come from a set down to beat their opponents. Once they had squared the match at one set all, both players took control of the final set.
The week has seen some high quality tennis at Graves Tennis & Leisure Centre with six of the quarter-finalists from Great Britain.
The doubles final saw a British pairing of Andrew Bettles and Luke Bambridge take on Isak Ardvisson and Micke Kontinen. The Swedish and Finnish combination proved to be too strong and they won the match on a deciding match tiebreak.
The singles final will take place today at 11am. It is free for all spectators with parking, courtside seating and catering facilities available.
