Sheffield Stars’ cycle speedway chairman Ian Brown has been presented with the Wilkinson sword award of merit, the sports top accolade. Ian, a partner in the Wosskow Brown firm of solicitors, who are Sheffield’s main sponsor, has put in many hours over the years and given invaluable monetary support.

He was instrumental in the the creation of the British Women’s League, support for the British Youth and Junior League and overseeing the growth of the Sheffield Stars Club into the biggest in the country membership wise.

He also contributed greatly to the GB tour of Australia in the winter of 2013, when he became the unofficial tour organiser. A previous Sheffield winner of the award was Martin Gamble in the 1990s.
