THE best round of the day featured in Worksop Golf Club’s return when winning the Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs’ 2nd Division Team Championship held at Abbeydale.

James Smedley led the way for Worksop with a 72, clearly the best of the day and only James Walton of Stocksbridge, with a 74, got within four strokes of him.

The other Worksop rounds were 76 from Curtis Wilson, 79 from Reece Thorlby Coy and 80 from Jonathan Guest.

Their aggregate of 307 was six shots better than the runner-up, Tankersley Park comprising Paul Wilkinson, 77, John McAllister 71, Paul Higgins, 79, and Lewis Hollingworth, 81. In third place a further five shots back were Sickleholme on 318 through Nigel Athorn, 77, Josh Newell, 78, Sean Needham, 80, and Oliver Smith, 83.

Those three along with Hallamshire, Wortley and Bawtry qualified for the prestigious Team Championship at Renishaw Park on July 2.
