Matt Fitzpatrick made a steady start to his defence of the Nordea Masters crown with a level par 73 in Sweden.
The Sheffield golfer sits five shots off the lead at Barseback Golf and Country Club as he looks to retain the title he claimed a year ago.
Fitzpatrick carded pars on his first ten holes before successive birdies saw him climb the leaderboard.
But bogeys on four and five took him back to level par, at which he finished his first 18 holes of the week.
Playing partners and tournament favourites Henrik Stenson and Alex Noren finished on level par and +2 respectively.
Italian Renato Paratore and Englishman Max Orrin led the way on five under par with former Ryder Cup player Jamie Donaldson one shot back in second.
Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick’s brother Alex won the Yorkshire Boys Amateur Championship at the Harrogate Golf Club.
The Hallamshire GC member won by two shots over two rounds.
