Matt Fitzpatrick continued his recent run of good form with a solid opening round at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.
The Sheffield golfer fired a three under par round of 69 at Carnoustie on the first day of competition at the Pro-Am which is played across three courses.
A single bogey on the tenth was the only blot on Fitzpatrick’s copy book from a decent morning’s play which left him five shots off the three way tie for the lead.
Fellow Steel City golfer Danny Willett endured a less pleasing round at Carnoustie.
Willett was in a decent position on -1 heading into his back nine but shot two bogeys and a double bogey to finish with a two over par 74.
Swede Kristoffer Broberg, Jimmy Mullen of England and Ireland’s Paul Dunne are in a three way tie for the lead, all on -8.
The best scores of the day came from Kingsbairns in the main with no player playing their first round at Carnoustie in the top 15.
Both Willett and Fitzpatrick are at Kingsbairns on Friday. Willett tees off at 11.12am alongside Darren Clarke while Fitzpatrick starts with Thomas Bjorn at 11.23am.
