Matt Fitzpatrick’s hopes of playing on next year’s European Tour are in his own hands heading into the final round of qualifying in Spain.
At the end of play today, the top 25 finishers at PGA Catalunya will receive Tour cards for next season.
And Sheffield golfer Fitzpatrick is currently tied for 23rd after a steady performance over five days of intense play.
The 20-year-old – who turned professional after this year’s US Open – knows a steady under par performance today should be enough to secure a card.
He tees off at 8.55 this morning, sitting on six under par after five rounds.
Fitzpatrick has already said he has no regrets about turning his back on a glittering amateur career for the paid ranks, whether or not he secures his Tour card this week.
