Abbeydale Golf Club member Mary Muhley has recently set a record that is unlikely ever to be broken in the foreseeable future.

At the club’s recent annual prize presentation, she was presented with the Joyce Wheen Scratch Trophy for the 30th time.

Her incredible record that stretches back to her first victory in this championship in 1973 when he was then known as Mary Smith, prior to her marriage to fellow Abbeydale member Dave Muhley.

Mary’s record is even more remarkable when you consider the fact that she was unable to play in the event for a number of years during the time that her two young sons were growing up - but has still managed to be crowned Scratch Trophy Champion thirty times during the last forty years or so.

Still playing off a single figure handicap after all these years, former Sheffield and Yorkshire County player Mary still enjoys her golf as much as ever and was a regular team member for Abbeydale this year, their first ever season in the Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association’s First Division Scratch League.

Thirty not out seems hard to beat... but you won’t find too many Abbeydale members willing to bet against Mary making it win number 31 in 2015!
