Young Chesterfield midfielder confirms his departure from club

Young Chesterfield midfielder Charlie Wakefield has confirmed his departure from the club.

The 19-year-old, who came through the Spireites academy, is out of contract and has not been offered a new deal.

Posting on Twitter he said: “So, it's goodbye to Chesterfield Football Club after 10 years with the club from academy under 11s to First team! Good luck to CFC for the future and a thanks to everyone that’s helped me along the way. Looking forward for what’s next.”

Derby-born Wakefield made his debut as a substitute against Scunthorpe United in April 2017.

He made his full debut against Grimsby Town on the first day of the following season.

The central midfielder’s only start of this season came in the FA Trophy defeat to Notts County.

His other two league appearances came off the bench against Dover Athletic and Aldershot Town.

He did not feature under John Pemberton and was loaned to Matlock Town in March.
