Worthington welcomes English keeper

Nigel Worthington has welcomed former England Under-21 Lee Camp into the Northern Ireland fold and says he would have “no hesitation at all” about pitching him into action against Serbia.

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Camp won five U-21 caps for England but was given permission by FIFA to pursue a Northern Ireland career.

Camp, aged 26, qualifies through his grandad, and ex-Sheffield Wednesday full-back Worthington is delighted to have him. With Maik Taylor approaching his 40th birthday and Jonathan Tuffey still relatively inexperienced, Camp has a great chance to become Worthington’s number one.

Having named him in a 23-man squad for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Serbia on March 25, Worthington said: “I’m delighted to get Lee on board; I had him on loan at Norwich and I know all about his qualities. He is an impressive goalkeeper and in the last few years he’s been even better.
