Wilson: Defeat hard to swallow after we dominated Fleetwood

Other than Conor McLaughlin’s first half goal, Wilson said his side had dominated proceedings and just didn’t get that little bit of luck they needed.

The Spireites hit the post and bar and found their former keeper Alex Cairns - on as an eighth minute substitute for the injured Chris Neal - in inspired form.

Wilson said: “We fully deserved three points but we’ve let a sloppy goal in.

“Overall that was difficult to take, I really feel for the lads.

“On Saturday we didn’t create a great deal, today we’ve dominated for large, large parts of the game.

“We’ve had the odd counter attack against us but we deserved to get something.

“We’ve not had the rub of the green, it’s not going in our favour at the minute.

“Sometimes you’re unlucky, we were very unlucky.

“It’s a hard one to swallow but it might be our turn next week when we get battered and win 1-0.”

Wilson was pleased with the performance of Gboly Ariyibi who threatened down his flank and forced both of his markers into taking yellow cards.

But perhaps the biggest positive was the unexpected return to action of both Ched Evans and Paul McGinn.

The Town boss said he hadn’t wanted to throw them on but felt it necessary with the score at 1-0.

“Ched’s injury is a very unusual one, it’s one I’ve not heard of before and I didn’t want to use him tonight but circumstances prevailed,” he said.

“We had fitness tests this morning and found out he and Paul McGinn could give us half and hour, they were never going to play a full game and they’ve come through it okay which is good.

“He’s (Evans) a quality player, he gives you a lift and hopefully we can keep him fit between now and the end of the season.”
