Martin Allen says he knows what Paul Cook will want from his former club when the Latics take part in Tommy Lee’s testimonial match against the Spireites on Wednesday.

So that’s exactly what Allen will give them.

“Wednesday night is another chance for us to get fit and fresh and challenging,” said the Spireites manager.

“I hope (Wigan will field a strong side).

“Knowing Paul Cook, I know what he will be expecting from us and it won’t be a kickabout testimonial.

“It will be a full on pre-season and he will be wanting us to play like a proper league game.

“He won’t want anything else from us. He won’t expect a tip-tap, he’ll expect it to be full on and that’s what we’re going to give him.”

Cook isn’t the only Spireites favourite looking forward to a return.
