Why Darren Moore believes his Doncaster Rovers side cannot underestimate Shrewsbury Town

The Shrews were thrust into the national spotlight last month when they took Premier League champions-elect Liverpool to an FA Cup fourth round replay after overturning a two-goal deficit at the New Meadow.

But despite their cup exploits in front of the BBC Match of the Day cameras, Sam Ricketts’ side have failed to register a league victory since returning from Blackpool with all three points on December 21. They are currently in 17th place in League One, 13 points behind Moore’s men.

Rovers are one of the sides to inflict defeat in the winless run, recording a 2-0 win over the Shropshire outfit in a dominant performance at the Keepmoat six weeks ago.

“We got the goals at the crucial times and we had a flawless defensive display and we're going to have (to produce) more of the same again,” said Moore.

“We know the team that they are. They have been on excellent cup runs this year, so it shows what they have done against higher opposition teams.

“We know that (Sam’s) got players there that he can chop and change to how he sees fit, so he's got players at his disposal that he can use as and when for (any) type of game.

“We just know that whatever team we're going to be facing down there, we know we're going to have to have good performances right across the pitch really - a combined effort.”

Moore, though, has been impressed with how his players have responded in training following their 2-1 reverse against Gillingham on Saturday, but says his side should be wary of the threat posed by the Shrews.

"They're a strong team,” said Moore. “Sam's got them really organised and they cause you problems as well.

"They play and get the ball down. They play when they want to but also at the same time they carry a tremendous threat at the top end of the pitch, so we know it's going to be a difficult game.

"But again it's another challenge that we have to face together and it's another challenge where we are going to have to be good.

“It's another challenge where we've got to build on performances from last week and what we did against Gillingham.”
