The Rotherham United loan defender has been a big hit since he joined Barnsley on loan.

And the versatile left-back is confident the Reds can haul themselves out of the League One relegation zone with a couple of welcome wins.

“I’ve played a lot of football in Yorkshire, so I know what the fans want,” stressed White. “The bare minimum is 110 per cent effort.

“I used to live in Guiseley and now I live in Penistone, so I know Barnsley well.

“This is a great club and I’m really thankful for the opportunity to get some games.

“My loan is until January 3, but we’ll have to see what happens after that.

“I’ve not had any conversations yet about staying, but I’d be open to offers and of course if depends on what Rotherham want to do with me.

“But I’m really enjoying my time at the club and just want to keep helping the lads win games so we can push up the table. You can see there’s lots of quality in the squad.

“The gaffer [Lee Johnson] brought me in to play games and I’ve thrived on the opportunity.

“And the lads have been great with me, it’s been really easy to settle in. That always helps you hit the ground running.”

White, who started his career aged eight with Leeds United and went on to play approaching 100 games for the Elland Road outfit, joined the Reds on an initial one and half month loan deal.

The club had lost eight league matches in a row and boss Johnson was understandably keen to plug the holes at the back.

White made his debut in a fine 2-1 away win at Johnson’s former club Oldham Athletic, a result which he believes kick-started the welcome mini-revival in fortunes.

A 2-0 home defeat to Wigan at the weekend left the Reds in the bottom four ahead of their next match on Boxing Day at Bury, now managed by former Reds’ manager David Flitcroft.

“We’ve got real quality in this club, but it’s up to us to show that,” added White.

“Some of the performances have been a lot better and we’ve been getting results, but we need to get more wins. And we all know that.”
