Jalal was taken off at half-time with a knock and replaced by the on loan Notts County stopper for his Town debut.

Fitzsimons joined the Spireites on loan in January but was recalled after one week after Magpies keeper Sam Slocombe suffered an injury. He returned to Meadow Lane and started County’s game against the Blues and saved Scott Boden’s first-half penalty before rejoining Chesterfield two days later until the end of the season.

“Now you know why I brought him in,” Pemberton said. “When everybody was moaning and saying ‘why have you brought another goalkeeper in?’ that is why.

“You are lucky if you go through half a season, or three-quarters of a season, without getting an injury or something happening to a goalkeeper.

“He made a decent save, he looks at ease, he kicks it well and he is quite calm. Like a typical goalkeeper he is quite aggressive in some of the things - he wants it right and I am happy with that.”

Pemberton said Jalal was still feeling the effects of a knock he suffered in the first-half against Harrogate Town last Tuesday but said he does not expect him to be out for too long.

“He was struggling a little bit this week,” Pemberton said. “He had a bang in the chest when he went down on Tuesday against Harrogate so he has been struggling to breath a little bit and he said he felt it tighten up in the first-half. He could not quite lift his arm but we have got a brilliant replacement.”

Youngster Regan Hutchinson, 18, who made his debut against Harrogate, missed out against Chorley and was replaced on the bench by Jamie Sharman.

Pemberton added: “Regan has been ill. He has been throwing up this week so we could not chance him.”

The win lifted the Spireites out of the bottom four for the first time in three months.
