Wedding day blues as Wheatley hopes crash

With skipper Richard Storey and Tom Starbuck both getting married and a number of their team-mates attending the two ceremonies, the relegated Doncaster club found themselves short of nine regulars.

The visitors drew first blood when kicking an early penalty. Wheatley took control for the rest of the half and but for a series of missed chances would have added to Ian Barker’s penalty.

Yarnbury scored the game’s first try five minutes into the second half and grabbed a further four touchdowns as Wheatley’s heads went down.

Fancied Doncaster Phoenix were held to a 14-14 draw by visiting Wath in their Division Three clash at Castle Park.

Phoenix came from behind in the first half to go in on level terms (6-6) at the break thanks to a brace of penalties by Ben Millar.

Millar kicked Phoenix into the lead at 9-6 early in the second half.

Wath levelled at 9-9 only for Millar, who later picked up a knock, to restore Phoenix’s lead with an unconverted try.

The home side looked set to go on and win the game at that stage, but the visitors weathered the storm and snatched a share of the spoils with a late try.

Thornensians slumped to a third successive Division Three defeat, going down 30-0 at unbeaten Castleford.

Adwick produced their best display of the season in Division Five B when holding Stanley Rodillians to a 26-6 victory margin.

The Doncaster club, who were well served by their forwards, led twice in the first half thanks to a brace of penalties by young full-back Jamie Banks.

The Wakefield side added a second unconverted try to extend their 11-6 interval lead.

But Adwick remained in with an outside chance until Stanley ran in two late tries.
