But he limped off after 84 minutes with a hamstring issue and then, having recovered, injured his Achilles in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

It wasn’t until the final game of the season at Barnet, with relegation already confirmed, that Chesterfield fans got to see the 32-year-old in action once again.

He was one of several players out of contract in the summer not to be offered new deals at the Proact.

The Derbyshire Times understands that no deal is imminent, although the striker may feature in tomorrow’s friendly at Gainsborough Trinity.

He was seen in action for Town at Boston United on Saturday.

Cheltenham and a number of clubs north of the border are also keen on the striker.
