TUMBLER had their shooting boots on as they recorded the highest score of the day in the opening weekend of the 2012-13 Doncaster Sunday Alliance League campaingn.
The team romped to an 11-2 win away to Premier Division rivals Stag Inn, for whom Adam Slater and Richard Howcroft scored consolation goals.
Rhinos also converted their chances when posting a 6-1 win at Armthorpe Coronation. Brian Craig helped himself to five of the goals with Brad Stykes also chipping in. Lee Drobac was the Coronation scorer.
Last season’s Championship winners Canal Tavern, collected a 5-2 win at Bentley Top Club. Ross Ebbage bagged a brace and there were also goals for Darren Howe, Brett Thomas and Glen Hookway. Corner Pin (Richard Yeomans 2) and Bullcroft Sports & Pastimes (Gareth Collinson, Gary Hayes) battled out a 2-2 draw. Defending champions Athletico Tap Maker (James Naylor, Dean Wilburn, Chris Scott, own goal) won 4-2 at Eden Grove (Gareth Jones, Peter Wormsley).
Social Bar dished out a 3-1 beating to visiting FC Dunscroft (Lee Winterman).
Last season’s KO Cup winners and Championship runners-up Sprotbrough, tasted a 6-2 home defeat against Hatfield Celtic following their promotion. Robert Wilson claimed four of the Celtic goals with Sam Johnson and Ricki Crompton also netting.
Edlington Top Club and Wheatley Hotel shared ten goals in their opening Championship clash. Chris Hudson hit a hat-trick for the home side with Shane Fox and Michael Edgcombe also chipping in. Callum Russell (2), Andrew Mellor, Greg Male and Lee Moore replied.
Wheatsheaf won 1-0 at Finningley Athletic. Hawthorn and Sportsman Inter Stella drew 3-3. Park Social beat Brodsworth United (Darren Bird 2, Aaron Strutt 2, Daniel Smith) 8-5.
