sHEFFIELD UNITED handed the goalkeeping shirt to George Long as they went on to beat Milton Keynes Dons 2-1 this evening.
Richard Creswell gave United a 22nd minute lead in front of 16,367 fans at the Lane.
He scored from close range to the bottom left corner against the team who started the night just one place and a single point behind the Blades.
Cresswell was booked before the half ended with a 1-0 lead for the Bramall Lane side.
And the same player seemed to be manhandled in the area although the officials waved play on.
Dons has their share of the ball, but United seemed confident and assertive in the areas that mattered most.
That was until Irishman Stephen Gleeson popped home a leveller from just outside the penalty area on 52 minutes.
Matt Phillips fancied his chances with a shot on goal from the free kick, but it was saved by David Martin and Dons began to impose themselves more.
Yet it was Blades who made the breakthrough, Phillips converting from close range on 67 minutes.
MK, who have won only one in the previous six, tried to force their way back.
Ched Evans, brought on as a substitute for Cresswell, was threatening for United as the tension increased.
MK’s Adam Smith was sent off in the last few minutes and the points were United’s.
