Travis in timely loan switch to Spireites

CHESTERFIELD prepare to take on a Stockport County side who have started the season in fine shape with two 1-0 wins from their games against Dagenham and Redbridge in League One and over north west rivals Tranmere Rovers in the Carling Cup.

Both of Jim Gannon's team's winners were in the last six minutes, indicating a good fitness level from a side that Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson has already watched this season.

"I've seen Stockport a couple of times along with a couple of other teams in our division and they are one of the better teams," he said. "A young team, lots of energy, so it's going to be difficult, a completely different type of game to the one we played at Sheffield United.

"We're fully focused on that now, the league is our No 1 priority. It'll be a tough test but we know that given the right levels of enthusiasm, like we showed at Bramall Lane, we shouldn't have too many worries. It's just getting the players used to the level that we're now playing at."

County, who missed out on the play offs on the final day of last season, will bring a decent following of around 1500 supporters for the game.

Richardson will be without the influential Jamie Ward who picked up a hamstring injury at Bramall Lane, his third problem in that area of 2007, whilst Gareth Davies is also out with a broken foot.

However he has moved quickly to recruit a replacement, Sheffield United's 20 year old forward Nicky Travis has joined the club on loan until the end of the year.

Richardson said: "We have been keeping an eye on Nicky and the chance for him to join us is quite timely in view of our current situation as he can be used in a number of positions.

"Steve Fletcher is expected to return in place of Wayne Allison, who played against Sheffield United on Tuesday.

Richardson's formation for the first home game of the season is the guessing game around Chesterfield. Both away games have seen 4-3-3 line ups but Ward's injury could mean a switch to a more traditional 4-4-2 with Adam Smith favourite to come in on the right of midfield.

Jamie Jackson could is another option to replace Ward.
