Tour riders to hit the town

TOP racing cyclists from across Britain and Europe will take to the roads around Doncaster next Thursday when the 2007 Tour of Britain Cycle Race arrives in South Yorkshire.

The tough seven-day race, which starts on Sunday in London and ends in Glasgow on Saturday week, has once again attracted top national and international riders.

The people of Doncaster and the surrounding areas will be able to see them as they race through the borough for the first time in 15 years during the gruelling Rotherham to Bradford 163.3km stage.

Setting off at 10.15am on Thursday, the race passes through Wickersley at 10.45am, where the riders contest a sprint; Maltby; and then on to the outskirts of Tickhill for a Category Three King of the Mountains climb up Limestone Hill at 11am.

The pelaton continues through Tickhill and on to Bawtry heading out towards Robin Hood Airport. The riders then race on through Moorends before leaving the Doncaster area.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the tour has taken place since it was restarted back in 2004.
