Steelmen pay penalty at Rangers

Ten-man Parkgate missed the chance to go five points clear at the top of the Koolsport NCEL Premier Division after a narrow 1-0 defeat at Winterton Rangers last night.

In an eventful game the Steelmen had Matt Griffin sent-off in the 29th minute following a challenge outside the box with the defender being deemed the last man.

Rangers grabbed what proved to be the winner on 57 minutes through Tom Finnigan. However, Parkgate were controversially denied a point when Nathan Swindells grabbed what was believed to be the equaliser from the penalty spot. Only for the referee for reasons known only to himself order a retake which Swindells put over the crossbar.

In Division One, Brodsworth Welfare were beaten 4-0 at home by second placed Yorkshire Amateurs as the visitors narrowed the gap to one point on leaders Staveley
