Stats suggest Saturday's referee '˜likes a yellow'

The man in charge of Chesterfield's game against Charlton Athletic on Saturday is John Busby.

Mr Busby, promoted from the National League in the summer, has refereed three League One matches already this season, dishing out 20 yellow cards.

His average of 6.67 yellow cards per game puts him second in the table for the highest average cautions per game among League One referees.

The man in the middle has blown for an average 26 fouls per game in his League One outings so far this season and 22 per game in his League Two appointments.

If statistics are anything to go on, Mr Busby won’t have much to worry about when the Spireites kick off against the Addicks.

Charlton have taken just 12 cards this season, only one of those being red.

Chesterfield have been shown 23 yellows, which might sound a lot until compared with ‘bad boys’ and League One bottom side Shrewsbury, who have earned 48 yellows and four reds.

Mr Busby will be assisted by Carl Fitch-Jackson and Anthony Da Costa on Saturday, while Christopher O’Donn is the fourth official.
