STAR AT RISK OF BURN-OUT

BARNSLEY boss Simon Davey admits he fears crack defender Lewin Nyatanga could suffer burn-out.

The centre back on loan from Derby County is expected to play Euro 2008 qualifiers for Wales against Germany on Saturday in Cardiff and in Slovakia on Wednesday.

Davey said: "Lewin has played seven games already this season. It's easy to forget that he's just a lad of 19. We'll monitor the situation closely."

The teenager has been ever-present for Davey's team in six games so far as well as playing the full 90 minutes for Wales in their 1-0 friendly win in Bulgaria last month.

Davey will hope he returns from Slovakia fit for Barnsley's next Championship match against Scunthorpe United at Oakwell on September 15.

Club skipper Paul Reid will be back for that game after a three-match suspension.

He played for the reserves yesterday as striker Miguel Mostto hit his first competitive goal for Barnsley in a 4-2 Pontin's League Cup win over Bradford City at Oakwell.

All six goals came in the second half after Luke Potter had hit the Bradford bar.

Mostto missed a chance with only keeper Matt Convey to beat before heading home a cross from Jamal Campbell-Ryce.Barnsley then conceded goals from Luke Medley and Leon Osborne to trail 2-1.

Rhys Meynell made it 2-2 with a calm finish from eight yards before Rohan Ricketts re-eastablished Barnsley's lead, turning in a centre from Luke Potter.

Barnsley made it a comfortable win in stoppage time with Dwayne Mattis glancing home a ball from Meynell.

midfielder Grant McCann's hopes of adding to his international honours have been boosted by injury to two Northern Ireland team-mates.
