Sprotbrough just three points away from promotion

SPROTBROUGH are set to make a swift return to Pontefract and District League top-flight after relegation last season.

They require just three points from Saturday's final match at second-placed Upper Haugh to be certain of being promoted as Division Two champions.

Sprotbrough beat Whitley Bridge by one wicket to retain an eight-point lead over Upper Haugh and Sandal.

Karl Buxton (3-19), Michael Threapleton (3-16) and Andy Exton (2-15) bowled out Whitley for 159.

In reply, Sprotbrough were indebted to Adam Kaye (42), Paul Wheeler (28), James Needham (26) and Exton (20no) as they overhauled the target.

There is a nail-biting finish to the Division Two relegation battle, with just seven points dividing the bottom seven.

Thorne Colliery, who visit Barnby Dun on Saturday, boosted their chances of escaping the drop when they climbed out of the bottom two by collecting maximum points against Knottingley.

Carl Walton (60) and Ian Lloyd (49) steered Thorne to a five-wicket win after Mark Walton (4-45) and Mick Sellars (3-15) dismissed Knottingley for 142.

Barnby Dun remain in relegation danger after losing to Upper Haugh. Barnby's defeat was hard on Jay Horne who had figures of 6-43 from 14 overs.

Conisbrough’s Division One survival hopes were lifted when they picked up maximum points for only the second time this season with a 24-run victory at Featherstone.

Scott Lowe (4-29) and Lee Johnson (3-60) toppled Featherstone for 146 after Johnson (36) and Des Steel (33) had guided Conisbrough to 170.

Conisbrough are five points ahead of Askern who were routed for 92, replying to Old Sharlston’s 236-7. Andrew Lunn (37) and David Longley (4-37) were Askern's best.

Askern visit Ackworth and Conisbrough travel to Old Sharlston for Saturday’s final matches.

Third-placed Fishlake lost by nine wickets to Streethouse who need just one point from Saturday’s game against Frickley Colliery to be certain of retaining the championship.

Ian Walker top-scored with 21 as Fishlake were routed for 66 by their former player Stuart Bellwood (4-30) and Richard Wild (4-25).

In Division Three, Conisbrough A racked up their highest total this season when Bob Fuller (64no) and Robin Hamshaw (43) guided them to 271-8 against Normanton.

Fishlake A slipped to their third straight defeat when they lost by 29 runs at Streethouse A.

Steve Johnson (4-43) restricted Streethouse to 183-9 but Fishlake managed only 154-6 in reply. All-rounder Johnson (38) and Niall Saynor (37) led Fishlake’s scoring.

Sprotbrough A went down by eight runs against Division Four promotion contenders Whitley Bridge.

Chasing 206, Sprotbrough finished short on 198-9, despite an excellent 60 from James Harris.

Bentley Colliery’s Division Five promotion hopes ended with a seven-wicket defeat at South Kirkby Aafter they were bowled out for 103.

Askern A were skittled for 51 in a nine-wicket defeat against champions Featherstone A.

In Division Six, Barnby Dun A won by 15 runs at Eggborough Power Station.
