A midweek win over Walsall - a team who finished third in the table last season - temporarily put Wilson’s men top of the pile, but the manager’s feet remain firmly on the floor.
“It’s nice to be up there,” he said. “It’s nice to have a bit of confidence in the first part of the season. The initial exchanges are always a little bit strange and a little bit unpredictable.
“Thankfully we’ve started quite steadily so it’s a big confidence booster for us. It’s a completely different dressing room, hopefully the mentality will change and won’t be about survival.

“Hopefully, as we go along, it will be one of looking forward to the next game and staying towards the top end of the league.”
And added: “Some of the football we’ve played already has buoyed the fans as well as the players.
“Just goes to prove if you can put the work ethic in and you can take what you do on the training ground on to the pitch on a Saturday you’ve a better chance of getting the success that you want.
“We’ve got some talented lads at the club. They are the type of players who want to play in the manner we are now, which is great. They seem to be rising to the occasion at the moment.”
