Spireites go for four wins in High Noon KO

Tomorrow's High Noon kick-off at Mansfield Town is arguably the most eagerly anticipated fixture of the season by the followers of Chesterfield.

Spireites will be looking to make it four league wins on the trot against a side that is more than capable of scoring but also has a propensity to concede.

The Stags defence has been breached 16 times this season in seven league and cup games, so Jack Lester will be looking to continue his run of scoring in each of his last five appearances.

Lee Richardson will be able to welcome back striker Adam Rooney and centre half Aaron Downes from International duty, Jamie Winter from an ankle injury and George Santos is also fit after playing 90 minutes in the midweek reserves match at Leeds United, though only midfielder Winter is likely to start, possibly replacing last week’s first time starter, 17 year old winger Ben Algar, who did remarkably well against Bury but could be on the bench for this crunch local derby.

The Chesterfield boss has been critical of the Australian Football Federation for flying Downes to Australia for two Olympic qualifiers during which he’s only appeared on the bench.

“There’s a fair chance he’ll miss the game after a 24 hour flight,” said Richardson, adding: “I feel the club’s been treated with disrespect with Aaron being asked to travel halfway around the world for two games in which he’s played no part, denying us of our captain in two games already and, more than likely, a third.”

He confirmed the club would be sending a strongly worded letter to the authorities conveying Chesterfield’s dissatisfaction.

The fact that the game, so huge for the fans, is merely a game will be demonstrated before kick off when a minute’s silence will be observed to honour two soldiers, one from each town, that were killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan earlier this month.
