Previewing Saturday’s game against Scunthorpe, Wilson discussed fresh injury concerns for his squad following a midweek defeat by Fleetwood.

But he wasn’t disclosing everything, perhaps hoping to keep rival manager Graham Alexander guessing.

It could be the second bluff at the Proact this week after Evans came off the bench to play half an hour on Tuesday, just 24 hours after Wilson said there was no timescale for the striker’s return.

What is known is that Connor Wilkinson is definitely out with a serious knee injury and Kristian Dennis is a doubt for Saturday.

“I don’t think there will be many changes, we’ve obviously got a problem with Connor Wilkinson, he’ll be out for a couple of months I would have thought,” said Wilson.

“That’s a big blow for us, he settled in quite well and everyone could see the talent he’s got.

“We were looking forward to him scoring goals for us but that won’t happen, not in the near future anyway.

“We’ve got one or two hedging their bets and we’ll take a view on Friday as to whether they have come through without reaction.

“We used a couple of the subs on Tuesday, Paul McGinn and Ched Evans and we’ve had a little bit of a setback with one of them.

“I don’t think that one will be back at the weekend. We’ll be missing one of them.”

Dennis didn’t train today due to the calf injury picked up on Tuesday night and will be assessed on Tuesday.

Wilson’s growing accustomed to his daily dose of bad news from the club’s head of sports science and medicine Roger Wylde.

“Doctor Death?” quipped Wilson.

“He comes into our room every morning and he’s never given us good news yet.

“I feel for Roger because he’s overworked at the moment.

“We’ll see on Friday who’s ready to play.”
