Spireite O'Shea's move to Pompey now unlikely

Despite rumours of a third bid from Portsmouth for Jay O'Shea, a move to Fratton Park is now said to be unlikely for the Chesterfield star.

O’Shea was the subject of two unsuccessful bids from Pompey and ex Spireites boss Paul Cook.

Although the trail went cold on the rumour front, it was back on the agenda in the last 24 hours with suggestions a deal had been reached.

Pompey have made a number of signings in recent weeks and with Walsall’s Milan Lalkovic set to arrive at the club next week, that make it seem unlikely they’ll continue their pursuit of O’Shea.

The Irishman would be a big loss for Danny Wilson, who has plenty of defensive cover in his midfield but not so much in the way of attacking flair.

Towards the end of last season Chesterfield defender Sam Hird dubbed O’Shea the club’s most creative player.

Last season the 27-year-old played 51 times for the Spireites and scored nine goals.
