Six on trot for premier Armthorpe

ARMTHORPE Welfare continued to dominate the Doncaster bowling season in 2007.

Despite newly-formed Eden Grove Sports claiming the Midweek League and the Bufton (Doubles) Cup, Armthorpe's first team retained the Saturday Premier Section title for the sixth year running.

They also won Doubles League Division One title and the Hospital Cup - both for the fifth year in a row.

Armthorpe A's interest in the Brooke Farm Handicap was ended at the quarter-final stage by their own B team, who went on to win the final. Armthorpe B also won Midweek League Division Two, while their C team won Division Five crown, and their pensioners team won Division One of the Over 60s Singles League.

Armthorpe A were unbeaten in the Saturday Premier Section - only the third team to perform this feat in the last 30 years.

Eden Grove Sports' win in the Midweek League was chiefly due to their form at home, where only seven of the 42 visiting bowlers went away with a win, and in addition to their defeat of Woodlands Park in the Bufton Cup final, they also finished runners-up in the Hospital Cup and Brooke Farm Handicap.

The Brooke Farm competition also saw Thorne Colliery reach the semi-finals for the first time - their first appearance in any semi-final since 1953.
