Shoot-out success sees Hallam win oldest derby to claim new trophy

LEE Bullen might not have learned any new tricks watching the oldest contested derby in world football, last night.

But the Sheffield Wednesday captain will have realised non-League football is certainly alive and kicking, as he watched Hallam and Sheffield FC, at Sandygate in the inaugural CH Coward Trophy decider.

The game ended in stalemate and it went down to penalties with Hallam winning the shoot-out 3-1 after new signing Matthew Vesty hit the winning spot-kick.

In open play NCE Premier Division Hallam and their UniBond South neighbours produced some honest endeavour, a fair bit of skill of a bumpy pitch - and two crisply taken goals.

Richard Carrington swerved a free kick into the bottom corner on 33 minutes for Hallam.

Four minutes later, Rob Ward backheeled a cheeky equaliser from Craig Marsh's cross.

Richard Carrington, Hallam's most influential player, could have settled the game for the blues, while Danny Bainbridge and Rob Cam also came close.
