The former Stoke manager, who at his first press conference as Owls boss on Monday revealed that the Wednesday squad has once again been touched by a handful of injuries, has offered opportunities to at least three academy starlets.

Pulis refused to name names when asked about the injuries in his squad, though speculation is rife over the absences of defenders Dominic Iorfa and Joost van Aken – as well as striker Jack Marriott – in images released by the club’s media team from Middlewood Road.

Long-term injury candidates Chey Dunkley (leg) and Aden Flint (hamstring), both defenders, have not yet rejoined first team training, with Flint having undergone surgery before the international break. The club are hopeful Dunkley could be in contention sooner rather than later.

Their frailties at the back may well have contributed to the fact that defenders Josh Dawodu, Ryan Galvin and Isaac Rice have all spent time with the seniors this week.

Galvin, an attacking left-back, spent time training with Garry Monk’s first team set-up earlier this season, though it is the first recall for a while for former Arsenal youngster Dawodu and Rice, who made the bench for the first team against Leeds back in 2018 but hadn’t trained with them this season.

The likes of Osaze Urhoghide, Liam Shaw and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru have been training with the a youthful-looking first team since Pulis took his first session on Monday.
