The left-back becomes the third signing of the Garry Monk era the day before his 19th birthday, following fellow youngster Manuel Hidalgo and loan signing Alessio Da Cruz through the doors at Hillsborough.

Galvin signs after undergoing a successful trial period with the club. He starred in the under-23s’ 3-2 home defeat to Hull City last week, featuring alongside Fernando Forestieri.

He also played in their 2-1 in over Bolton Wanderers.

He has first team experience at lowly Stafford Rangers, where he spent a short stint at loan late last year.

The Star understands there has been no transfer fee exchanged for the player, whose contract was up in the summer and he moves on a mutually agreed basis.

The youngster told the Sheffield Wednesday website he is keen to press on and eventually challenge for first team involvement.

“I’m over the moon if I’m honest,” he said.

“I’m just so glad I’ve been given the opportunity to come here.

“When I found out I was given the contract after my trial I couldn’t stop smiling!

“I want to do well for the under-23s and see what opportunities come from there.

“Hopefully one day I’ll be with the first team, but it’s one step at a time.”

Ryan Galvin may not be the last signing of the window, with Wednesday linked with a loan move for Crystal Palace forward Connor Wickham.
