Tony Pulis has been confirmed as the new Wednesday boss, so we took a look at what could potentially be his ‘ideal’ XI based on the way that he set up in his most recent games.
In his final season at Middlesbrough, he varied mainly between 3-5-2, 3-4-2-1 and 4-3-2-1 over the course of the campaign, also using 5-4-1 or 5-3-2 on a couple of occasions.
If it’s 3-5-2, this is potentially what it could look like…
1. GK - Keiren Westwood
It's been a long time since Westwood played for Wednesday, but Pulis may well look at his vast experience at Championship level, as well as his long kicks, as a reason to reinstate him to the side. Photo: Nathan Stirk
2. LCB - Joost van Aken
With his height, and the fact that he's one of only two left-footed CBs in the side, JvA may well be a good option for Pulis. He has played three right-footed centre backs before though, so Chey Dunkley may be in with a shout due to his goalscoring threat. Photo: Steve Ellis
3. CB - Aden Flint
Flint played a lot under Pulis at Boro, so you'd think he'd be a shoe-in should they be reunited at Wednesday. Height and a real threat from set pieces. Photo: Steve Ellis
4. RCB - Dominic Iorfa
With his height, intelligence and pace, you'd think that Iorfa is pretty much undroppable regardless of the manager who comes in. You would expect Pulis to pick him if he did join the Owls. Photo: Steve Ellis
