Worrying news for Sheffield Wednesday as Darren Moore contracts pneumonia as a result of COVID-19
There’s worrying news out of Hillsborough tonight as it’s revealed that Sheffield Wednesday’s Darren Moore has contracted pneumonia.
Moore missed three Owls games recently after testing positive for COVID-19, but after returning for the 2-0 defeat against Swansea City earlier this week, his situation has now worsened.
A statement on the club’s official website read, "Darren Moore has suffered a setback after his recent contraction of COVID-19 that will dictate a further absence from the club.
“The Owls manager returned to Middlewood Road last Monday having completed the requisite isolation period. Moore felt fully fit to assume his duties, but experienced discomfort following our home game with Swansea on Tuesday.
“Everyone at the club sends their best wishes to the gaffer for a speedy and full recovery.”
Quoting the manager himself, it said, ““I have developed pneumonia as a result of COVID-19 with blood clots on the lungs and extreme discomfort. I am gutted to be away, but I understand the situation and the course of action I must take.”
Speaking about his battle with COVID-19 earlier in the month, the Owls boss explained, “The best way I can describe it is that my body was just in pain for four or five days, by bone structure, the bones in my shoulders, chest, legs. I was in a lot of pain.
“My breathing restrictions from my chest was pretty limited, but the doc we’ve got here was excellent, I got some steroids which were a great help to me and I started to feel a lot better on day three of that course of steroids in terms of my feeling.
“It was the pain, a weird one, my whole bone structure in my body was really painful, it drains you and it was a feeling of lethargy all over me.”
And there were further worries for the Owls boss because of his asthma… He also explained, “It’s something I’ve always had to keep on top of all my life. When this illness took me, it was a worry, we know how serious it is. The doctor was excellent in terms of maintaining the medication with me. He’d not left me since it came on, every day he’s been on it.”
